LAND STEWARDSHIP:
TUXUU WORKING GROUP
We believe in building a caring relationship with Tuxuunga (the Place of the Old Woman, in the Tongva language) as stewards of this unceded Tongva land, its plants, and creatures. Participate in guided neighborhood walks and hikes with native plant experts to learn about native plants and creatures. Volunteer on habitat restoration projects on public lands, or plant or maintain native gardens in our community. Learn about all the different ways we can build relationships of stewardship and care with our local ecosystems honoring traditional ecological knowledge and Indigenous leadership.
INDIGENOUS PEOPLES DAY - 2024
Sunland-Tujunga Forward is organizing Indigenous Peoples’ Day 2024--our fourth such event!
Join us on Sunday, October 13, 2024, as we honor the Indigenous Peoples of Los Angeles (Tongva, Tataviam, Chumash) and beyond. This event will include Tongva, Tataviam, Chumash, and other Indigenous presenters, storytellers, performances, and vendors.
This event is held on 111 acres that were preserved for public use thanks to the activism of local residents and Indigenous groups.
This event is free and open to the public. We hope you will join us on these sacred grounds in this joyous celebration.
Location: 12400 Big Tujunga Canyon Rd. Tujunga, CA 91042.
Time: 11am-4pm, Sunday October 13, 2024
Donations are greatly appreciated and will help us pay for MRCA required site fee and honoraria for the presenters.
